SATURNIA 2006

This year's celebration of JIMI was the 10th anniversary of HENDRIXIANA, a special date.

Last year the weather was sunny and friendly and we could use the swimming pool after a whole night of playing music.This year was quite different because of low temperatures which had a great impact for some people.

For me I do not mind the cold too much with my Austrian roots and I know how to keep myself alive even under extreme playing conditions remembering the icicles on Queensday in Hilversum. What I am saying is that peoples fingers got stiff which is not fun when you want to shake them strings and let Jimi take over.

The event was filmed and recorded by a dutch film crew and there is a plan of making a documentary.

The food and wine were marvellous again and we were treated like Gods by the friendly kook and the waitresses. I loved seeing this bearded man again,who had appeared as Jimi Hendrix in a dream two years ago and who had blown my mind when I met him in reality.

A little birthday cake was presented and Alvise was honoured for his efforts to make the event possible since 10 years.

On Saturday morning I did a workshop with kids and grown ups and the kid below showed us his beautiful musical talent.We were improvising quite some time which was lovely.There were more children around this year grabbing a guitar here and there in a playful way.

Saturday night was the final concert ending with a beautiful jam and celebration of this 10th anniversary. Jimi kept the place dry all three days with an invisible umbrella while in some parts of Italy they had snow ...

While almost everybody had gone to sleep Maurizio could not resist to keep playing the blues backstage and I joined him for awhile before jumping into my bed to get some sleep as well, because we had to catch our plane at around 12.00 in Rome and leave early.

My impression was that the musical quality was even better than last year. Thanks to everybody who helped making this meeting possible. Jimi's spirit was definitely around and I hope there will be an 11th SATURNIA next year.
